So, my laptop is essential and I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him at home all alone, without anyone to take care of him, play with his keys nor spill coffee all over his case.
I know what it’s like to lose a laptop, so I take a few steps now to ensure its security and protection. Here’s what I recommend:
Back Up EVERYTHING
Before you hit the road, back up everything. Trust me, you’ll thank me at some point.
When on the road, Install Google Drive or iCloud and start syncing as you go. If you do ever lose your laptop, you can use an internet cafe or public computer to access your current documents.
Invest in a Laptop Case. Dropping the hot potato, I’ve never done it before but I’ve seen it happen to friends. After a few too many cheeky shandies you decide to whip out the laptop and before you know it, it’s high fived the floor breaking the screen. It was funny for me, but not my friend. At least it still worked. A laptop case will greatly reduce the impact force when it inevitably hits the ground.

There are times when you’ll want to take your laptop with you while wandering around, but most of the time it will probably get left behind. If I’m staying in a hostel, I will sleep with it under my pillow, or in a bag next to me. I have never had anything stolen from me, but time and time again, I see teary eyed travelers lodging pointless police reports claiming that their electronics were all stolen. Don’t let that happen to you, be discreet and try not to flash it around, keep it locked up or with you at all times.
If you’re in a hotel, keep it locked in your bag, or hidden away. Even hotel workers can be opportunists.
